The Pediatric Nurse Practitioner DNP Program is one of the very few programs in the state of New Jersey preparing doctorally prepared pediatric nurse practitioners. This program prepares nurses to demonstrate expert clinical knowledge that is grounded in advanced theory and evidenced based practice. The Primary Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioner program at Rutgers University School of Nursing prepares nurse practitioners for the challenges of delivering comprehensive care and translating evidence into practice for the pediatric population from birth to 21 years.
This program utilizes a family and community centered approach to facilitate health promotion and disease prevention of the pediatric population. The primary care pediatric nurse practitioner curriculum meets the guidelines of the National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculties and graduates will be eligible to sit for certification offered by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) or the Pediatric Nursing Certification Board (PNCB).The program is designed for either part-time or full-time study.
Our graduates influence the health outcomes of pediatric patients and their families on local, state and national levels. They are employed in various settings to include outpatient and inpatient settings, schools, long term care facilities, local, state and national public health agencies. Our graduates serve as models of expert pediatric clinicians and contribute to the science of pediatric nursing through collaborative practice, policy formation and practice initiatives.
Clinical placement is arranged by our experienced, practicing faculty with student input in order to enhance the individual learning goals. Our preceptors are expert clinicians and clinical sites are available throughout the state.
The Program Director for the Pediatric Nurse Practitioner specialty is: Margaret Quinn, DNP, RN, APN-C, CPNP
All of the in-person classes are held at the Newark campus only.
