** Recommended: The policy states that students must complete the Drug Screen only if required by the particular clinical agency. As such, it is recommended that if students believe that a site will require a background check or drug screen we ask the students complete the necessary items as soon as possible to avoid any delays in the clinical /research experience
* Recommended but not required for Executive Model Students: The policy states that students must complete a Background Check, Student Disclosure Form and Drug Screen only if required by the particular clinical agency. As such, it is recommended that if students believe that a site will require a background check or drug screen we ask the students to complete the necessary items as soon as possible to avoid any delays in the clinical/research experience.
Some requirements may take only a day to complete, while others can take several months and require multiple visits to a physician. It cannot be stressed enough how important it is for students to initiate this process prior to the actual clinical rotation so that clearance can be granted.
Please note that some clinical sites may require additional requirements. You will be notified if additional information is needed.

You can access your program requirements on Canvas by clicking on “Modules.” Please use the clinical clearance grid located on the “syllabus page” to verify your requirements. Since students are enrolled in “sections” that correspond with program clinical requirements, we advise you to confirm that you’re enrolled in the correct section.
Completed requirements can be accessed by clicking on “Grades.”
The Office of Clinical Clearance will input your health and immunization, flu vaccine, criminal background check, urine drug screen, and student disclosure information on Canvas. But, because this is a manual process for each student, if you do not see your records on Canvas, you may access them through the following sources.
Health & Immunization, Flu Vaccination, and Annual Physical

- Please visit the Student Health and Immunization website at https://www.rutgers.edu/student-immunizations/nursing to complete your health & immunization requirements. Please select the packet “Category 1 (Updated 03.10.21). An annual physical is required for all students for all clinical students
- Any questions about Health/Immunization and Flu Vaccination requirements please contact Student Health Services, via secure message through the Patient Immunization Portal at https://patient-rbhs.medicatconnect.com/
- An annual influenza vaccination is required of all nursing students prior to attendance at any clinical site utilized by the nursing program. Students must receive a new vaccine each Fall administered after August 1st.
- To submit your Health/Immunization and Flu Vaccination, please log on to the student health services Patient Immunization Portal at https://patient-rbhs.medicatconnect.com/ with your Rutgers NETID and password. To view your immunization records, click on the Immunization tab, View History, and Print. At the bottom of your record, you will find any missing requirements. You may submit any outstanding immunization documentation through the portal under the Upload tab or via fax (973) 972-0018.

CPR-BLS (upload to CANVAS required)
Students are required to have a current valid American Heart Association “Basic Life Support for Health Care Providers” CPR certification. These certifications can be completed at a variety of training centers and are valid for two (2) years from the day that you pass the course. Students will be asked to upload their CPR card to Canvas . Please note only the American Heart Association BLS CPR card is accepted.
Clinical Clearance utilizes a Canvas course to collect and update information regarding clinical clearance. The course title is “School of Nursing – Student Information”
In this course you can view clinical requirements and upload requested documents.

3. Read the Clinical Clearance Guide “Welcome”

All nursing students must complete a Student Notification of Program Requirements Form prior to matriculation into the their Rutgers nursing program (Traditional, Blackwood and Second Degree). Students will be asked to upload a signed copy of the form to Canvas. The form may be found on the Student Notification of Program Requirements module in Canvas. Please upload your signed form immediately.

Graduate, School Nurse Certificate and RN to BS students are required to upload a copy of their current RN license in order to participate in clinical. Professional licensure must be valid for the entire clinical experience.
