Staff Council

The purpose of this Rutgers School of Nursing Staff Council is to serve as the official body advocating for the interests and needs of the School of Nursing staff. The Staff Council will provide a forum for raising, discussing, and making recommendations on current policies and procedures while also keeping staff members informed of issues and activities affecting them. In an effort to enhance the quality of the School of Nursing work environment, the Staff Council will promote understanding and cooperation by facilitating communication among staff, faculty, and all constituents affiliated with the School of Nursing. The Staff Council will also work to provide leadership and support to all members of the School of Nursing to enrich community spirit.

2. Encourage the enhancement of the work environment and work life of School of Nursing employees.

4. Uphold and strengthen the mission of the School of Nursing.

Staff Council Committees

Committees are chaired by members of SON Staff Council and may include representatives from the staff at-large.

By-Laws Committee

This committee will be responsible for the annual review of the Bylaws document, integrating edits as recommended by Staff Council, and the ongoing maintenance of this document. The By-Laws Committee is responsible for presenting their recommended edits to the full Staff Council for a vote and approval.

Community Development Committee

This committee will take the lead in planning, implementing and evaluating activities to encourage staff engagement. In the past, such events have included a holiday toy drive, virtual holiday party, virtual cocktail hour, and virtual trivia hour. The committee’s primary role will be to develop and implement novel or established opportunities for staff to connect with each other.

Recognition Committee

This committee will develop ways to recognize particularly valuable staff at the School of Nursing. This committee will also be charged with considering the reestablishment of the “Heart of Nursing Award” and maintain the already in place “Thank you Notes Program”.

Marketing and Communications Committee

This committee will take the lead in advising the Chair on marketing of the Staff Council to ensure all staff at the School of Nursing are familiar with the Council and know how to refer important issues to a member. They will also track membership, develop a nominations calendar, and take the lead on the annual nominations process for the council.

If you are interested in joining a Staff Council committee or getting involved in Staff Council, contact us.

Staff Council ByLaws

The staff council ByLaws is a governing document that addresses the purpose and structure of the staff council.  The ByLaws is voted on by the staff council and updated on an annual basis.

Recognition and Retention

SON Staff Mentorship Program

The major goal of the program is to highlight the talent of our more tenured staff while providing the opportunity for new and more newly experienced staff to smoothly navigate organizational complexities and form genuine mentorship relationships – Simply put, this program is about facilitating professional growth and meaningful interactions within the SON. In addition to the traditional one-on-one mentorship experience, the SON program includes development workshops to be presented by our mentors. The program’s second cohort will launch in the spring semester with mentor/mentee pairings to include our newest staff of the school (those who began with us during the past year) and those who volunteer to be mentors.

If you have more than 2 years of experience within the SON and would like to volunteer your efforts as a mentor or workshop facilitator, please access the link below to complete the volunteer form. Please note that while we intend for each of our development workshops to be presented by our mentors, it is not necessary for each mentor to facilitate a workshop.

Orientation and training dates will be sent to those who volunteer. The formal one-on-one meeting frequency is once a month.
