HESI/Evolve

Health Education Systems Incorporated (HESI) exams and Evolve resources are used throughout the curriculum. HESI specialty exams are standardized exams that test students’ knowledge and ability to apply nursing concepts within specific content areas (specialties). The HESI Exit Exam, taken during the final semester, is comprehensive and highly predictive of success on the NCLEX exam. Students who score 900 or above have an excellent chance of passing the NCLEX exam. In addition to the Exit Exam, students are required to take two HESI exams related to their courses (not all courses have a related HESI exam). Following each HESI exam, students receive an individualized report and a remediation plan. The individualized HESI exam report includes the HESI score, the conversion score and indicates strengths and weaknesses in core subject areas.  The remediation plan is based on the questions answered incorrectly and recommends multiple Evolve activities to complete to improve performance. Approximately 2 weeks after taking the first HESI exam, all students (regardless of the score achieved on the first exam) will take a second course-related HESI exam. Completing the first remediation plan is associated with a higher score on the second HESI exam. The higher of the two HESI scores will count for 5% of the course grade. In addition to preparing students for the NCLEX exam, the HESI exams and the Evolve resources assist students with their understanding and application of course concepts.

Classroom Conduct

Rutgers University is committed to providing courses that meet the highest standards of excellence with the mission of preparing students to become productive members of society and good citizens of the world (University Code of Student Conduct, Rutgers University).  As such, students are expected to maintain a standard of conduct.

A challenge in the online classroom is understanding the meaning of communications without the visual and auditory clues from the speaker. It is important to recognize that the online classroom is in fact a classroom, and certain behavior is expected when you communicate with both your peers and your instructors. These guidelines for online behavior and interaction are known as netiquette.
