Contracts

Please contact the Executive Director of Research (TBA) or Jennifer Kore for assistance with drafting or processing subawards and other research-related agreements. If you’re an FXB member, contact Jamie Steiger.

As a first step, we will work with you to prepare a Statement of Work (SOW). The SOW is the essence of any contract and should be written carefully, as it sets standards and defines expectations. The SOW is especially important for federal subcontracts since subaward monitoring is a primary area of audit concern.

Writing a Statement of Work

The SOW should describe all of the other party’s essential and technical requirements and should include standards to determine whether the requirements have been met. Here are some common elements:

  • Objective or purpose
  • General description of responsibilities.
  • List of detailed work requirements and deliverables. List tasks and expected outputs. This should provide both technical and performance specifications.
  • Performance, quality, and timeliness requirements. This includes required or acceptable levels of performance on each specific task measured in terms of accuracy, response time, and speed.
  • Workload requirements. A description of levels or size of the expected effort and expected frequency of interaction.
  • Personnel requirements. Minimum qualifications or skill levels expected for as-of-yet unspecified contributors.
  • Government-furnished equipment and other resources to be furnished to the subcontractor.
  • Reporting requirements.

Please keep in mind that only authorized representatives are permitted to sign contracts on behalf of the University. Further, some contracts must be approved by a central office as well as the School of Nursing. Work directly with us, and we will secure all necessary approvals.
