Research Projects
Several members are actively engaged in research projects that are consistent with the mission and aims of the Center:
- Drs. de Cordova, Johansen, and Weaver have engaged in collaborative research focused on nurse workforce environment staffing councils in New Jersey acute care hospitals. This work was funded by a 2017 NJ Organization of Nurse Leaders grant, and the findings were recently published in “Nurse Leader.”
- Drs. Thomas-Hawkins and Flynn were awarded a grant by the American Nephrology Nurses’ Association to examine associations among nurse staffing and workload, practice environment support, processes of care, patient safety, adverse patient events, and nurse work engagement, job satisfaction, and intent to leave in dialysis settings. Data collection on this project is complete, and manuscripts to disseminate the study findings are in progress.
- Drs. Flynn and Mastro have recently completed joint work on a research project that is reflected by their co-authorship on two publications focused on magnetic resonance imaging use, quality and costs of care, and patient safety.
- Dr. Cox was awarded a School of Nursing Endowment Award, and the project is focused on validation of pressure injury risk factors in the adult critical care population.
- Dr. Flynn is the co-lead researcher on a federal Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) grant award that is focused on training veterans as partners in PTSD research.
- Dr. Weaver was awarded a Council on Graduate Education for Administration in Nursing (CGEAN) grant award for the development and testing of “The Administrative Supervisor Practice Environment Scale.”
