Dr. Blumenfeld is a Certified Nurse-Midwife. She began her work in healthcare as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Guatemala and Paraguay where she worked on community-based health education projects. She worked as a midwife at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, MA, and, for the last 24 years, at Capital Health in Trenton, NJ. In this capacity, she provides midwifery care for a predominantly newly immigrated, Spanish-speaking Latina population. In addition to her clinical responsibilities, Dr. Blumenfeld is dedicated to serving the community in Trenton. Since 2001, she has worked in a variety of roles in the city serving at-risk infants, children, youth, and families. Most recently, she serves as the clinical consultant to a Spanish-language community doula program.

Dr. Blumenfeld is a passionate advocate for creating lasting change through health policy. She serves on the NJ Board of Medical Examiners Midwifery Liaison Committee, the NJ Maternal Care Quality Collaborative, and is the 2025 Chair of the NJ Maternal Mortality Review Committee. Dr. Blumenfeld is active in the American College of Nurse-Midwives at both the local and national levels. She currently serves as the President of the New Jersey Affiliate of the American College of Nurse-Midwives and as Chair of the College’s Government Affairs Committee. In recognition of her work to expand access to midwifery care in New Jersey she was the 2023 recipient of the American College of Nurse-Midwives Public Policy Award.

Dr. Blumenfeld was inducted as a Fellow in the American Academy of Nursing in 2023 and the American College of Nurse Midwives in 2021.
