Looking toward retirement, Dean Linda Flynn thanks School of Nursing community

August 5, 2024

Linda Flynn (PhD, RN, FAAN), dean and tenured professor of Rutgers School of Nursing announced several months ago that she would retire once a new dean was in place. Now that time has come. Angela Starkweather (PhD, ACNP-BC, FAANP, FAAN) was named as incoming dean by Chancellor Brian L. Strom (MD, MPH), who leads Rutger’s Health.

Dean Flynn has led the school for nearly five years. She was named dean in June 2020 after serving nine months as interim dean. Immediately before being tapped for these roles, she was the inaugural senior associate dean for nursing science and has held other key leadership posts at the school.

Following Strom’s announcement, Dean Flynn sent a message of thanks and appreciation to faculty, students, and staff:

Dear School of Nursing Community,

“Words cannot express how thankful I am for the opportunity to have served as your dean. It has been my honor and the highlight of my career. I have said this many times, but I truly mean it— you are amazing! Rutgers School of Nursing is a special place because of each one of you.

“I am looking forward to retiring effective Monday, August 19, and am excited about this new phase of my life. I will enjoy spending more time focused on my family, friends, neighbors, and volunteer opportunities.

“Also on that day, you will be welcoming your new dean, Dr. Angela Starkweather! I am confident that together, you will do great things and continue to produce the next generations of highly skilled nurses, nurse leaders, advanced practice nurses, and nurse scientists.

“Please know that, as the song goes, I will always love you!”

Best wishes and God bless!
Linda
