Peer Mentor

Coming to a new place can be difficult, even a bit scary — that’s why our peer mentors are here to help make the transition easier.

Our mission is to promote academic and personal success for nursing students at Rutgers School of Nursing by creating an environment of support and scholarship through mentorship.

Although not everyone can be a peer mentor, those who are selected love what they do. Their job is to help new students find their way to their classes, locate the best places to eat, and learn more about how to navigate online tools.

How It Works

Every new student is assigned to a peer mentor. Peer mentors will contact their assigned mentees by e-mail prior to the start of the semester. Once the mentees arrive on campus, their peer mentor groups will begin meeting starting the first week of classes. By the end of your first semester, mentees will feel more acclimated to their new life as a nursing student.

There are between 5-10 peer mentors per campus. As a peer mentor, you must:

  • Participate in the planning of one active large-scale program per peer mentor group per campus each month pertaining to the theme for the month.
  • Plan one passive program individually each semester.
  • Help with the selection process of new peer mentors (group process day).
  • Mentor up to 10 assigned mentees.
  • Be a full-time undergraduate student in the School of Nursing.
  • Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.

Campus Coordinator
