Rutgers School of Nursing alumnus recognized among “New Jersey’s Favorite Kids’ Doctors”

January 14, 2025

Steve De Los Rios (DNP, CPNP-PC), a distinguished clinician and recent graduate of Rutgers University School of Nursing, is featured in New Jersey’s Favorite Kids’ Docs for 2024, published recently by New Jersey Family magazine.

This is the 16th year that New Jersey Family has published Favorite Kid’s Docs, a list of pediatric health care professionals selected by parents for providing the “best and most compassionate care.”

According to the magazine, “there’s no way to buy a spot on this list and that’s what makes it unique and trustworthy. In an age when worrying about our kids’ mental and physical health weighs heavily on us all, finding exceptional and experienced medical care for our families matters more than ever.”

De Los Rios is a certified pediatric nurse practitioner specializing in primary care (CPNP-PC). He earned his doctor of nursing practice (DNP) degree in 2023 from the pediatric nurse practitioner program at Rutgers School of Nursing.

Margaret Quinn (DNP, CPNP, CNE), clinical professor and the program’s specialty director, said, “Dr. De Los Rios has made remarkable strides early in his nurse practitioner career. His selection as one of New Jersey’s Favorite Kids’ Docs demonstrates the profound impact he’s already having on the lives of his patients and their families. He is one of our many outstanding alumni who are gaining recognition for their contributions to improving health and wellness.”

Quinn’s sentiments were echoed in parents’ statements nominating De Los Rios for the Favorite Kids’ Doc list:

  • “Dr. Steve is extremely personable and takes his time with each patient!” – K.L., Hoboken
  • “He is gentle with my son, understanding of all concerns, and takes the time to listen.” – L.S., Mountainside
  • “Dr. Steve has the ability to make myself and my child calm and comfortable with each visit.” – S.S., Springfield

For registered nurses seeking to become pediatric nurse practitioners, Rutgers School of Nursing offers acute care and primary care specialty tracks, as well as New Jersey’s only dual acute and primary care track, available as a post-bachelor’s DNP degree, or a post-master’s certificate. The pediatric nurse practitioner offerings are among 12 specializations included in the school’s DNP program, which is nationally ranked at No. 5 by U.S. News & World Report’s Best Graduate Schools 2024.
