Linda Flynn (PhD, RN, FAAN) dean and professor at Rutgers University School of Nursing, received the 2024 NJBZ Health Care Hero Award at a celebratory reception held yesterday in Somerset. Flynn was one of four outstanding leaders honored in the Health Care Educator category.

NJBIZ created the Health Care Heroes program to salute excellence, promote innovation, and honor the efforts of individuals and organizations making a significant impact on the quality of health care in New Jersey. This year, awardees were named in 11 categories including Educator, Healthcare Professional, Innovator, and Volunteer.

Awardees are selected by an independent panel of judges, who are not affiliated with NJBIZ, based on criteria including professional accomplishments and achievements, community involvement, impact, and leadership and vision.

In announcing Flynn’s award, NJBIZ cited Flynn’s national leadership in advocating for a diverse nursing workforce and a culture of inclusivity in nursing education as well as her tireless efforts to address nursing shortages and other workforce concerns in New Jersey and beyond.

Flynn is the recipient of numerous awards and honors–most recently the 2024 Diva and Don in Nursing Award presented in April by the Institute for Nursing, New Jersey State Nursing Association. Named among the world’s top 2% of nurse scientists by Stanford University, she is one of only four individuals to receive the Nurse Educator of the Year from the National League for Nursing.

The NJBIZ awards event featured a video tribute that included clips of the honorees describing why they pursued a career in health care.
