Dione Sandiford PhD, RN, CNE, CHSE is Assistant Professor in the Division of Simulation and Clinical Learning at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, School of Nursing. She has over 20 years of experience including acute care, sub-acute/long-term care, nursing administration, home care, and nursing education in both clinical and academic settings.
Dr. Sandiford works collaboratively with faculty to facilitate simulation-based learning and student clinical skills development for undergraduate nursing students and interprofessional students. She plans and implements evidence-based simulation in the clinical learning environment and instructs and evaluates undergraduate students’ clinical skills performance. Dr. Sandiford is a dynamic educator who has been instrumental in converting in-person simulation to remote simulation experiences and has been a part of the virtual learning task force to review and evaluate digital clinical experiences for its usefulness and application to the undergraduate nursing program.
Dr. Sandiford earned her diploma in nursing from Muhlenberg School of Nursing, AS in nursing from Union County College, BSN with honor from the College of Saint Elizabeth (now Saint Elizabeth University), MSN in nursing education from Walden University, and most recently she earned her PhD in nursing at Rutgers University School of Nursing. The title of her dissertation research was “Mentoring of New Contingent Nursing Faculty in Undergraduate Nursing Programs.” Dr. Sandiford has also earned the distinctions of Certified Nurse Educator (CNE) through the National League for Nursing and Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE) through the Society for Simulation in Healthcare.
Dr. Sandiford professional service includes membership in Sigma Theta Tau International Nursing Honor Society (Phi Nu Chapter), American Nurses Association, New Jersey League for Nursing, New Jersey State Nurses Association, National League for Nursing, Eastern Nursing Research Society (ENRS) and the Midwest Nursing Research Society (MNRS). She has served as mentor for the American Nurses Association mentoring program. Dr. Sandiford has also served in advising and mentoring students in the Summer Health Professions Education Program (SHPEP) at Rutgers University.
