Dr. Alexandria Carey joins the Rutgers School of Nursing as an Assistant Professor and Director of Research Development, bringing more than 26 years of experience in nursing education, clinical practice, scholarship, and academic leadership. Her work centers on advancing translational science and strengthening the clinical research workforce through innovative education and program development.
Before Rutgers, Dr. Carey served as Assistant Director of Translational Workforce Development and Research Navigation at the University of Florida Clinical and Translational Science Institute, where she led initiatives supporting Clinical Research Professionals across academic, clinical, and research settings. She has contributed to workforce development efforts at local, regional, and national levels, including active engagement within the Association for Clinical and Translational Science Clinical Research Professional community.
Dr. Carey has held senior academic leadership roles, including Associate Dean of Nursing, and is certified as a Nurse Educator (CNE), Emergency Nurse (CEN), and Pediatric Emergency Nurse (CPEN). With over 19 years of experience in emergency and trauma care, she continues to bring a strong clinical perspective to her work as a Clinical Research Nurse.
She earned her PhD in Nursing from the University of Florida, where her research focused on implementation science and digital health innovation. Dr. Carey’s scholarship spans nursing, translational science, workforce development, and mentorship, and she is committed to advancing research capacity and cultivating the next generation of nurse scientists and clinical research professionals.
