She received a diploma in nursing from Touro Hospital School of Nursing in New Orleans, a bachelor’s degree from Old Dominion University in Nurse Anesthesia and Education., a MSN from Seton Hall University in pediatric primary care nursing, and a doctoral degree from the University of South Carolina in Nursing Science , where she studied trauma and resilience in children.

Dr. Percy’s  program of research, which has been funded by foundations, state and federal grants, is dually focused on investigating and supporting resilience in low-income children and adolescents, and practice issues for pediatric nurse practitioners. An NIH/NINR grant focused on teen mothers and their infants, testing the Touchpoints model developed by T. Berry Brazelton, MD. Currently, she is working with the Child Health Program to uncover the best practices created by nurses providing health care case management for children in foster care.

Dr Percy is also interested in capacity building in developing countries, and the increased inclusion of minorities in nursing education in the US. She is currently looking at a model of cultural safety for possible application to US nursing programs.

In addition, she has conducted three research studies using non-verbal methods and continues to explore this approach to research (particularly with children).
