Dr. Mark Karasin is a board-certified Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner whose work spans clinical practice, scholarship, and education. A two-time Rutgers School of Nursing alumnus, Dr. Karasin serves as a Specialty Director of the Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner program – the same program that shaped his own professional journey. Following completion of his Doctor of Nursing Practice degree, he completed a postgraduate Advanced Practice Provider Critical Care Fellowship at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, where he continues to practice as an Advanced Practice Nurse in cardiothoracic surgery, caring for critically ill patients in a Level 1 trauma academic medical center. A recipient of AORN’s Top Forty Under 40 recognition (2017) and twice named AORN Journal Writer of the Year, Dr. Karasin has authored multiple peer-reviewed articles on perioperative nursing, contributed to educational and workforce development initiatives, has extensive experience in simulation-based clinical training, and brings his passion for cultivating future nurse practitioners.
