Rutgers School of Nursing faculty and students are at the forefront of exploring how artificial intelligence can transform nursing education while preserving the human connection at the heart of nursing. In a recent American Nurse Journal article, Dione Sandiford, PhD, RN, CNE, CHSE; Monina Franco-Tantuico, PhD, MSN, BSMT, RN, CNE, CHSE, ACUE, CCRN-a; Kimberly Lopez Hernandez, Student Nurse; Annie Pajaro, DNP, MSN, RN, CHSE; and Rowena Curva, PhD, APN, FNP-C, examine both the promise and challenges of AI-enhanced learning. Their work highlights how emerging technologies, including virtual patients, generative AI and AI-enhanced virtual reality, can create more personalized, immersive learning experiences while strengthening critical thinking, clinical reasoning and judgment. Just as importantly, their work emphasizes the need for ethical, evidence-based approaches that ensure technology enhances, rather than replaces, the human-centered values of nursing.
