Phedra Deonarine completed her Ph.D. in English at Rutgers-New Brunswick and her MFA in Creative Writing at Rutgers-Newark. She was a 2021 finalist for the Miami Book Fair Emerging Writer Fellowship, a semifinalist for the 2019 Kurt Vonnegut Prize in Speculative Literature, and was longlisted for the 2019 Sunburst Award for Excellence in Canadian Literature of the Fantastic (short story fiction). Her work has appeared in EventThe New Quarterly, and other publications.

She has a passion for contributing to the development of college students, particularly in areas of literature and writing. Through this passion, Dr. Deonarine developed an interest in AI language generation modeling in its role in academic and non-academic writing. 

In her current role, Dr. Deonarine supports the many initiatives of the Division of Student Affairs within the Rutgers School of Nursing.
