Instructional Design - Memo
eCollege is rapidly and increasingly losing functionality and support.

According to both Pearson and Rutgers' Center for Online and Hybrid Learning and Instructional Technologies (COHLIT), the applications associated with several deeply integrated instructional technologies will stop functioning within eCollege; some as early as December 31, 2017 and the company has no plans to remedy the usage of these applications.
These applications include:
1. ClassLive – used for synchronous online meetings (expires on December 31, 2017)
2. Plagiarism detection - powered by Turnitin to compare student submissions (expires May 31, 2018)
3. Notifications – used to send out notifications concerning course activity (expires December 31, 2017)
4. Examguard – powered by Respondus Lock Down Browser used to restrict computer activity while students are taking a quiz or exam (expires December 31, 2017).
Additional functionality has also decreased, including but not limited to being able to copy and paste content while using Firefox, providing SIRS surveys through Evalkit, and utilizing a single-sign-on process with eCollege.
It is important to note that, despite eCollege's decline in functionality and support, the university's contract with Pearson remains in effect until 2019. As a result, the Instructional Design team at SON would like to be proactive in offering you a system that ensures the integrity of your content as well as an effective means to support your instruction. Therefore, we are inviting you to consider migrating your courses to Canvas, if you have not done so already.
Please fill out this form if you would like your course migrated to Canvas:
Canvas Migration Form
To provide you with a means to access Canvas as a learning tool even if you choose not to migrate your courses, we will be requesting the creation of a blank Canvas course shell for all SON faculty. Additionally, we will be providing you with a sample course shell as well. Having access to both a blank course shell and a sample course shell will enable you to explore the Canvas LMS, its functionality, and ways to make it work more seamlessly for you and your students.
The SON Instructional Design Team will also be hosting monthly workshops to support you, so be on the lookout for our upcoming schedule of trainings. Also, you can always reach out to us directly for individualized support requests.
If you have any questions or if you would like to discuss this opportunity in depth please feel free to contact me or Natalie O’Neil our contact information will be listed below.
We are looking forward to hearing from you soon!
