Rutgers School of Nursing Scholarships

Deadline: May 1st for the following academic year (Fall 2017 - Spring 2018).

Must have a current Rutgers nursing GPA to be eligible to apply for any of the Rutgers School of Nursing scholarships.  (Must be a nursing student in Newark, SSB, Blackwood, or New Brunswick to be considered).

The School of Nursing offers scholarships to students based on academic performance and need.
Decisions are announced just prior to the semester (Mid August) for which funds are requested.
(Late and/or incomplete submissions will not be considered)

Completed applications must be submitted via email to rusonscholarships@sn.rutgers.edu.

2017 NJ HIMSS Scholarships

The New Jersey Chapter of the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (NJ-HIMSS) is pleased to announce the 2017 Academic Scholarship program for students in a Healthcare Information Management, Healthcare Information Technology or a Clinical Informatics track.

We have had (3) Rutgers student recipients of these awards in the past (2) years.

NJHIMSS offers four different awards:

The Katrina Kehlet Graduate Award is offered in memory of Katrina Kehlet a longtime friend to NJ HIMSS.
She served as a senior leader for one of America’s leading technology companies and passed away in the Fall of 2012. To recognize her 20+ year career, her support for our chapter and her friendship, The NJ Chapter of HIMSS established the Katrina Kehlet Graduate Award. This $5,000 Award is offered to one individual whose essay embodies the passion, values and innovative use of technology that Katrina displayed in her career. Through this action we hope to keep her memory, passion, and dedication in the forefront of our chapter activity and academic support.

New to 2017, our chapter will award a second Graduate Award to another deserving individual pursuing a
Graduate degree. This award will be for $4,000.

The Veterans Award is offered to students pursuing an Associate, Baccalaureate or Graduate degree for
$4,000.

The Undergraduate Award is offered to students pursuing a Baccalaureate degree for $2,500.

Tobacco-Free Life Academic Scholarship

Abdol H. Islami, M.D. Foundation, Inc.
Healthcare Student 2017-2018 Scholarships

Deadline: March 3, 2017

The Abdol H. Islami, M.D. Foundation Scholarship is given to full-time students enrolled in academic health professions programs in New Jersey. The scholarship is awarded to financially needy students who display outstanding academic achievement, exemplary character, and active community service. Applicants must be U. S. citizens who hold New Jersey residency.

Full-time Rutgers School of Nursing students enrolled in the BSN, MSN or DNP degree program are eligible to apply. BSN students must have completed at least six months (or the equivalent of 1 full semester) in their program prior to applying. Students enrolled in 3-year to 4-year programs must have completed at least one year (or the equivalent of two full semesters).

Garden State Chapter of the National Association of Hispanic Nurses Association® (NAHN)

Deadline: September 16th, 2016

On behalf of Garden State Chapter of the National Association of Hispanic Nurses Association® (NAHN) and Johnson & Johnson Future of Nursing, we are happy to announce the availability of nursing scholarships to undergraduate and graduate nursing students. Garden State Chapter of National Association of Hispanic Nurses® is a non-profit professional association committed to advancing the health of Hispanic communities and to lead, promote and advocate the educational, professional and leadership opportunities for its nurse members.
The scholarship awards are open to nursing students of all backgrounds attending nursing school in New Jersey and it is not exclusive to Hispanic background.
Criteria for scholarship include: 

  1.  Garden State Chapter of NAHN scholarship application form with all sections completed by the student and submitted by deadline date (postmarked by September 16th, 2016).
  2. Two (2) Letters of Recommendation from faculty members; one from a clinical instructor and one from an academic instructor outlining the applicant's future professional contribution to the nursing profession and potential to act as a role model for other aspiring nursing students.

Note: The Letters of Recommendation must be the original copy in a sealed envelope with faculty member's signature across the sealed flap (no exceptions).

  1. A word processed essay (300 words maximum) 
  2. A current resume, which includes earned certificates, awards, and special awards.
  3. An official transcript from College or Nursing Program.
  4. Academic excellence (minimum GPA of > 3.2 preferred)
  5. List of volunteer/civic work  
  6. Verification of active membership status in Garden State NAHN Chapter.

National League for Nursing (NLN) Foundation for Nursing Education Scholarship Awards Program for Future Educators

Deadline: May 31, 2016, 4 p.m.

In support of attracting more seasoned and ethnically diverse nurses to become nurse educators, the NLN Foundation will award scholarships of up to $8,000 to help complete graduate education. Funds may be used for tuition, support for a dissertation or thesis, or travel for attendance at an onsite internship or classes. Applicants must be:

bullet   A nurse pursuing an advanced degree in preparation for a career as a full-time nurse educator.
bullet   An NLN member, either through individual dues or through employment at an educational institution member.

American Association of Indian Nurses Scholarship

The American Association of Indian Nurses-New Jersey Chapter 2 (AAIN-NJ2) will grant $500.00 in scholarships to FOUR eligible nursing students of Indian heritage from United States during the GALA night.

Students must meet the following eligibility criteria to apply for the scholarship:
1. Be enrolled in a State approved associate/ baccalaureate/graduate degree nursing program
2. Have at least one more year to complete the nursing program

Minority Nurse Scholarship

Deadline: May 2, 2016

Minority Nurse has teamed up with NCEMNA to co-sponsor an annual scholarship to help outstanding students from underrepresented groups complete their studies toward a Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing. To date, we have awarded scholarships to more than 40 students, honoring their commitment to the profession, academic excellence, and community service. We are currently accepting applications for our 16th annual scholarship competition, consisting of two $1,000 awards and one $3,000 award.

Scholarships will be paid in summer 2016 for the fall 2016 academic term.

Who is Eligible
To apply for this scholarship, students must meet all of the following criteria:
1. Be a minority in the nursing profession.
2. Be enrolled (as of September 2016) in either the third or fourth year of an accredited BSN/BS in Nursing program in the United States OR an accelerated program leading to a BSN degree (such as RN-to-BSN or BA-to-BSN) OR an accelerated master’s entry program in nursing for students with bachelor’s degrees in fields other than nursing (such as BA-to-MSN). Graduate students who already have a bachelor’s degree in nursing are not eligible.
3. Have a 3.0 GPA or better (on a 4.0 scale)
4. Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident

2016 WyzAnt College Scholarship

Nurse Practitioner Scholarship Program

The 2016 program opens January 16 and ends March 16, 2016, or when 280 completed applications have been received.

Mid State Black Nurses Association Scholarship 2015

November 7, 2015

The Mid State Black Nurses Association of New Jersey awards scholarships through its Scholarship Dinner Dance, held annually to eligible nursing students of an accredited nursing program in New Jersey with a G.P.A. of at least 3.0 in Nursing.

The Zola Mae Surratt Scholarship

The Mid State Black Nurses Association of New Jersey is pleased to bestow the Zola Mae Surratt Nursing Scholarship to a nursing student who has excelled in the categories of academic achievement, leadership and community service.  Ms. Surratt was one of the founders of the Mid State Black Nurses Association, where she served two terms as President.  She also served as the Chapter Historian.

The specific degree program is not a critical factor, although it is expected that programs similar to those in healthcare informatics, healthcare computer science and information systems, healthcare policy and quantitative programs in business administration and hospital administration will predominate.

*The applicant must be attending a school in New Jersey or be New Jersey resident

*The recipient is requested to become a student member of the NJ HIMSS Chapter

*The applicant must have at least a B average or equivalent at the time of the application

*The applicant must be sponsored by a NJ HIMSS member in good standing

*Veterans must have received an honorable or general discharge to be considered (if asked, the candidate would be able to provide the official DD-214)

*Previous Scholarship winners are ineligible

One-NJ - Living Legends Advanced Leadership Scholarship

Application deadline: Sept. 1, 2015

The “Living Legends Advanced Leadership Scholarship” is designed to support the advancement of high potential leaders from all sectors and industries specific to the nursing profession. The scholarship framework is designed to provide financial support to assist candidates in their aspiration to complete their advanced degree. Scholarship funding reflects the long-term commitment of ONE NJ to the advancement of nurse leaders in the State of New Jersey.

Eligible candidates -

 *   Current member of ONE NJ for a minimum of three consecutive years including 2015, 2014 and 2013.
*   Active RN license in New Jersey
*   Enrolled in a MSN, DNP or PhD program in an accredited school.
*   Must have completed a minimum of six credits in the program.
*   Must have a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA.
*   Demonstrate leadership in the areas of nursing practice, administration, education, community service, government, mentorship or research.
*   Demonstrate advanced communication skills, continued professional growth and the ability to be supportive.
Guidelines –
Up to six scholarships will be awarded and will be presented at the ONE NJ Annual Awards Brunch, Dec. 10, 2015 at Forsgate Country Club, Monroe Township. Each scholarship awarded will be a minimum of $1,000.

Deadline –
The application deadline is Sept. 1, 2015. Application packets received after this date will not be accepted.

Required materials –

 1.  Completed application form (attached).
2.  Essay (maximum 250 words) detailing why you merit consideration for this scholarship award. Be specific outlining your leadership qualities and goals as they relate to the nursing profession and your financial needs.

5.  A letter from the Dean or a faculty member who knows the applicant and can speak to your ability to succeed in the program, your leadership potential and verification of the GPA and the cost of the program.

Public Health Nursing Scholarship Program

Deadline: July 30, 2015 at 5pm

The Public Health Nursing Section of the American Public Health Association invites BSN students who plan to engage in PHN practice, Graduate nursing students with a public health concentration, and Early Career professional nurses (within 3 years of finishing your degree) to submit an application to become a recipient of a PHN Scholarship to provide $500.00 to assist in attendance at the 2015 Annual Meeting of the American Public Health Association.

Hurst Reviews/AACN Nursing Scholarship

Marcia Granucci Memorial Nursing Scholarship

Application period: March 1 – June 15 - DEADLINE EXTENDED TO JUNE 15, 2015. Now open to all graduate level nurses, Masters level and above.

The Marcia Granucci Memorial Nursing Scholarship Fund was formed in 1995 in the memory of its namesake who was killed while serving vulnerable populations in Monmouth and Middlesex counties in New Jersey. The Visiting Nurse Association of Central Jersey, a member of the Visiting Nurse Association Health Group, and Marcia’s family established this scholarship as a tuition grant for nurses in pursuit of a graduate level degree and to continue the professional legacy of its namesake, who developed a community-based mental health program at VNA of Central Jersey. A 1972 graduate of Salve Regina University School of Nursing, and a 1974 graduate of the Yale University School of Nursing Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing Program, Marcia Granucci was dedicated to the design of health care systems for the disenfranchised and those with mental disorders. Initially targeting only Psychiatric and Community Health Nurse candidates who are New Jersey residents, the scholarship now also funds tuition grants for nursing graduate students in pursuit of clinical leadership or family health advanced degrees.  

Scholarship purpose: To provide scholarships to graduate nursing students interested in pursuing an educational concentration in psychiatric/mental health, community health nursing, clinical leadership or family health.

Field/area: Psychiatric/mental health, community health nursing, clinical leadership or family health.

Now open to all graduate students (master’s and above) in all specialities.

Level of education for award: Graduate level.

Number and amount: One scholarship annually, up to $2,000 per academic year.  Renewable upon reapplication.

Eligibility requirements: New Jersey resident; will consider both part-time and full-time students.  Current licensure.  Must demonstrate acceptance into a graduate nursing program of a Commission on Collegiate Nursing (CCNE) or the National League of Nursing (NLN) National League of Nursing (NLN) – accredited educational institution. Minimum 3.0 GPA.   Special consideration for applicants who demonstrate volunteer involvement.

Additional information: The applicant is required to submit an application, three (3) reference reports, and their transcripts, GRE scores and a personal statement. Final applicants may be required to appear for a personal interview.

Method of payment: Scholarship checks will be paid directly to the University/College in which the student is enrolled.

National Health Service Corps (NHSC) Scholarship Program

Deadline: Dec 1st and May 7, 2015 at 7:30 PM ET

The 2015 National Health Service Corps (NHSC) Scholarship Program application cycle is now open and will close on May 7, 2015 at 7:30 PM ET. Please refer to the 2015 Application and Program Guidance for all of the program requirements.

Eligibility is open to all students who are committed to primary care and are U.S. citizens or nationals and are enrolled in a fully accredited training program for Physicians (MD or DO), Dentists, Nurse Practitioners, Certified Nurse-Midwives or Physician Assistants at a U.S. accredited school. Scholarship support includes tax-free payment of tuition, required fees, other reasonable educational costs, and a taxable monthly living stipend.  For each year of financial support an NHSC Scholarship recipient serves one year at an NHSC-approved site in one of many high-need urban, rural, and frontier communities (minimum two year commitment).
The NHSC Scholarship Program continues to be competitive and applicants are encouraged to begin the application process early as on average it takes up to 3 weeks to complete the application.

Johnson & Johnson/AACN Minority Nurse Faculty Scholars

Deadline: May 1, 2015

AACN, with support from the Johnson & Johnson Campaign for Nursing’s Future, is now offering the eighth round of scholarship funding to underrepresented minority nursing students who plan to work as nursing faculty after graduation.

Applicants must be enrolled full-time in a doctoral nursing program or a clinically focused master’s degree program. Five scholarships in the amount of $18,000 will be awarded.

Caroline E. Krajewski Manney Nursing Scholarship

Deadline: April 8

Individuals may apply for the annual Caroline E. Krajewski Manney Scholarship by meeting the following criteria:

Resident of Somerset County; enrolled in a National League for Nursing or Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education accredited nursing program within the State of New Jersey; successful completion of at least one semester in an RN Program.  Other qualifications are:

  • Evidence of academic ability that includes:
    • Official transcript from High School (if graduated within three years)
    • Official transcript from institution in which enrolled, including most recent semester completed
    • Cumulative Grade Point Average of 3.0 or better
  • Completion and submission of an essay of approximately 300 words expressing future professional goals and an overview of why she/he chose the nursing profession
  • Submission of two letters of reference – one professional and one personal

School of Nursing Scholarships

Application Period: Apply beginning February 1. The deadline for application submissions is March 15 for the following academic year .

The School of Nursing offers scholarships to undergraduate and graduate students based on academic performance and need. The deadline for application submissions is March 15 for the following Fall semester. Decisions are announced just prior to the semester for which funds are requested. 

The following scholarships are available through the School of Nursing:

  • Samuel and Kathleen Barone Family Endowed Scholarship[1]: Variable amount - Based on merit and financial need. This scholarship is awarded to full time undergraduate students who are New Jersey residents.
  • Kenneth and Jane Charlesworth Endowed Nursing Scholarship[1]: To be awarded to a full-time undergraduate student in the School of Nursing based on academic merit-specifically, to a student who has achieved a 3.4 or higher cumulative average in his/her freshman year at the School of Nursing or to a transfer student coming in as a sophomore with a 3.4 or higher cumulative average.  Qualified students must submit the appropriate university approved financial aid form by March 1 of each year to be eligible for award.  
  • School of Nursing Scholarship[1]: Variable amount - Depending on money donated through the annual alumni phonothon and private sources.  This scholarship is based on merit and need and is awarded to undergraduate students.
  • Helene Fuld Health Trust Scholarship Fund for Baccalaureate Nursing Students[1]: Based on academic merit as determined by the academic administrator and financial need as determined by the Office of Financial Aid.  Qualified students must submit the appropriate University approved financial aid form each year to be eligible for award.
  • Patricia Scola Memorial Scholarship[1]: Variable amount - This scholarship is based on merit and financial need for those on the New Brunswick campus.
  • Van Allen Scholarship[1][2]: Variable amount - Based on merit and financial need, this scholarship is awarded to full-time undergraduate or graduate students of Hispanic descent.
  • Zullo Family Endowed Scholarship[1]: Variable amount - Based on merit and financial need - This scholarship is awarded to full-time undergraduate students who are New Jersey residents.
  • The Augusta Dutka Harcar Endowed Memorial Scholarship[1][2]: To be awarded to a full-time undergraduate or graduate students showing an interest in geriatric or hospice nursing care.  Awards will be based on academic merit and financial need as determined by University rules in effect on the date of the award.  Qualified students must complete the appropriate University requirements each year to demonstrate their eligibility for financial aid.

School of Nursing Fellowships - Graduate Students

Deadline: March 15

  • Kenneth and Jane Charlesworth Endowed Nursing Fellowship: Variable amount - Based on academic merit, specifically the achievement of a 3.4 cumulative GPA or higher at the undergraduate level if newly admitted or a 3.4 GPA average or higher at the end of one semester. This scholarship is awarded to Master's level students.
  • Elizabeth M. Fenlason Endowed FellowshipNewly admitted full-time graduate students in the Rutgers School of Nursing are eligible for this fellowship based on academic merit. Eligible studens must have a cumulative 3.4 GPA for all undergraduate coursework or a senior year GPA of at least 3.4 at the Rutgers School of Nursing.

Mary L. Steele Reives Scholarship Award

Deadline: March 15

Chi Eta Phi Sorority-Tau Chi Chapter is pleased to extend an invitation to your eligible, undergraduate Nursing students to apply for the Mary L. Steele Reives
Scholarship Award, who meets the following criteria:

  1. Enrollment in an accredited School of Nursing pursuing a
    Diploma, Associate's or Bachelor's degree.
  2. Has a Grade Point Average acceptable to the school listed upon
    the application.
  3. Maintains an acceptable Grade Point Average to keep the
    Scholarship.
  4. Demonstrates an interest in Nursing, a financial need,
    scholarship achievement, and leadership potential.
    Student Eligibility requirements are as follows:
  • The award is open to student nurses who are pursuing an
    undergraduate degree in an accredited Nursing Program.
  • The student must have completed six to twelve (6-12) or more
    credits in the Nursing Program at the time of submission of this
    application, and at the time of receipt of the Scholarship Award.
  • The student must be enrolled for six to twelve (6-12) or more
    Nursing Program credits at the titne_of submission of this
    application, and upon receipt of the Scholarship Award.
  • The student must have a 3.0-3.5 GPA or better at the time of
    submission of this application.
  • The student must be considered in "Good Standing" within the
    Nursing Program and school.
  • The student must demonstrate a financial need to assist in the
    pursuance of their Nursing education.
  • The student must have volunteered at least four (4) hours of community service associated with the
    course curriculum.
  • The student must document a one (1) page letter of intent, specifying financial need, and return it
    attached to the application.
  • Submit two (2) letters of reference from faculty members and/or the Dean/Director of the program
    in which the student is currently enrolled.
  • Submit an Official Transcript of the Current courses in which the student is currently enrolled.

Letters of interest must be submitted no later than March 15th. Applications with all required supporting documents must be received by May 18th and returned to:

The Abdol H. Islami, M.D. Foundation Scholarship

Deadline: March 15

For 2015, the Islami Family Foundation awarded $90,000 to 10 Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences students. Now, they are inviting applications for 2016. This scholarship is for full-time students with (1)  financial need, (2) outstanding academic achievement, (3) exemplary character, and (4) active community service. Applicants must be U. S. citizens who hold New Jersey residency.

Full-time Rutgers School of Nursing students enrolled in the BSN, MSN or DNP degree program are eligible to apply. BSN students must have completed at least six months (or the equivalent of 1 full semester) in their program prior to applying. Students enrolled in 3-year to 4-year programs must have completed at least one year (or the equivalent of two full semesters). Preliminary applications must be submitted by March 15. Selected candidates will notified in the spring and invited to complete the full application package for further consideration.

March of Dimes Graduate Scholarship

Deadline, January 30, 2015

The March of Dimes is pleased to once again offer several $5,000 scholarships to recognize and promote excellence in nursing care of mothers and babies.  The scholarship application is available online at marchofdimes.org/scholarship or by request via e-mail to scholarship@marchofdimes.org

Qualified scholarship applicants are registered nurses currently enrolled in graduate education with a focus in maternal-child nursing at the master’s or doctorate level with at least one academic term to complete after the summer of 2015.  Scholarship applications must be received via e-mail no later than January 30, 2015 to be eligible for review.  The winners will be honored at the 2015 annual meetings of the Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric, and Neonatal Nurses, the American College of Nurse-Midwives, or the National Association of Neonatal Nurses depending upon their affiliation.

The Philippine Nurses Association of New Jersey is offering a scholarship award to a deserving undergraduate,  graduate, or doctoral  student who is currently pursuing a degree in nursing. The award provides for one academic year to the following recipients:

$1,000.00 for  Associates degree in Nursing (AS) category
$1,000.00 for  Bachelor’s  degree in Nursing (BSN) category $1,000.00 for Licensed RN pursuing  Master’s degree in Nursing ( MSN)
$1,000.00 Master’s prepared RN ( nursing focus) pursuing doctoral degree (DNP or PhD  in Nursing)

Applications must be postmarked by Wednesday, September 17, 2014, AND received by the Scholarship Chair by Friday, Sept. 19, 2014.

National Association of Hispanic Nurses Association® (NAHN) New Jersey Chapter Scholarship Awards

Deadline: September 15, 2014

The scholarship awards are open to nursing students of all backgrounds attending nursing school in New Jersey (Hispanic background NOT required).

Criteria for scholarship include: 
1. The NAHN- NJ Chapter scholarship application form with all sections completed by the student and submitted by deadline date (postmarked by September 15, 2014).
2. Two (2) Letters of Recommendation from faculty members; one from a clinical instructor and one from an academic instructor outlining the applicant's future professional contribution to the nursing profession and potential to act as a role model for other aspiring nursing students.
Note: The Letters of Recommendation must be the original copy in a sealed envelope with faculty member's signature across the sealed flap (no exceptions).
3. A word processed essay (300 words maximum) 
4. A current resume, which includes earned certificates, awards, and special awards.
5. An official transcript from College or Nursing Program.
6. Academic excellence (minimum GPA of > 3.2 preferred)
7. List of volunteer/civic work  
7. Verification of active membership status in NAHN NJ Chapter. (Student members are available)

Late applications will not be accepted.
