Prescribing Controlled Dangerous Substances - For Advanced Practice Nurses - Fall 2008

This one day course is intended for Advanced Practice Nurses who have prescriptive priveleges.  Content covered in this course include the pharmodynamics of controlled substances in relation to their action on the brain and target end organs and their use in pain management including contradictions, drug interactions and adverse reactions.  The faculty who are both clinically active advanced practice nurses will also discuss the use of controlled substances in non-psychiatric, non-pain related conditions as well as the use of CDSs in the treatment of psychiatric clients.  The potential of addiction when prescribing CDSs will be explored both for the patient and the prescriber. This comprehensive course meets the 6 contact hour requirement for content for the APN to be licensed to prescribe and manage CDSs in New Jersey.  In addition, those desiring an update on prescribing controlled dangerous substances will benefit from this course.
