Post Master's Certificate Course in Nursing Education - Summer 2010

This course is intended for those who are currently employed or who wish to seek a position as a faculty/teacher in nursing education. Those who have attained a masters or doctoral degree in a clinical specialty and/or as a practitioner and who have not had an educational background will benefit by attending, as will those currently in a teaching position who desire to update their knowledge/skills in educational theories, trends and resources. Standards and competencies needed by nurse educators will be discussed. Content of this intensive course will include curriculum development/design, educational philosophies, adult learning strategies, identification and evaluation of clinical competencies, test and measurements, teaching/learning theories and strategies, cultural competencies, leadership and management. How technological advances will impact on nursing education will be explored and demonstrations and hands on experience with online teaching will be a part of this educational experience. Outcomes as a measurement of student learning and the concept of continued competencies will be discussed and examples of specific programs will be given. Participants will have experiences in the development of course materials and evaluation tools.
