As the demand for health care continues to grow, so does the need for easily accessible, up-to-date evidence on best practices in health care. Systematic reviews are an important vehicle for addressing this need. Participants in the Summer Institute will gain a thorough understanding of the process and tools needed to undertake this important form of research and will work on developing an actual proposal.

- The 5-Day Proposal Development Track

9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. daily
This track is for individuals who are new to the comprehensive systematic review process and who wish to learn about the review and synthesis of both quantitative and qualitative evidence. Participants will gain a thorough understanding of the process and tools needed to undertake this important form of research.
- during the session, complete a structured plan to create your own systematic review proposal.
- 28 contact hours provided with JBI certification upon successful completion of chosen course or module of study.
- Joanna Briggs Institute systematic reviewer certification is available for an additional fee.

- Day 5 is reserved primarily for completion of a systematic review proposal under guidance from Institute faculty.
NEST also offers 3-day tracks for individuals who are interested only in reviewing one type of evidence, i.e. either qualitative or quantitative.

- The 3-Day Qualitative Track

This session is for individuals who are new to the comprehensive systematic review process and who are interested only in the review and synthesis of qualitative evidence. Participants will gain a thorough understanding of the process and tools needed to undertake this important form of research.
- The 3-Day Quantitative Track
July 13 and July 16-17, 2015
9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. daily
This session is for individuals who are new to the comprehensive systematic review process and who are interested only in the review and synthesis of quantitative evidence. Participants will gain a thorough understanding of the process and tools needed to undertake this important form of research.
NEST also offers a 1-day track for individuals who are interested only in learning about the basics of systematic reviews and evidence synthesis (i.e. designing a focused clinical question, searching the literature, developing a proposal). The review and synthesis of quantitative and qualitative evidence are not covered in this track. Be sure to select the appropriate item in the drop down menu when registering. Specialized Instruction. Small Groups.
Classes will be held in Rutgers' high fidelity classrooms and computer labs. You will gain hands-on instruction and practice in using three specialized software programs:
- JBI-MAStARI (Meta Analysis of Statistics, Assessment and Review Instrument) for quantitative data;
- JBI-QARI (Qualitative Assessment and Review Instrument) for qualitative data; and
- JBI CReMS (Comprehensive Review Management Software)

Drs. Holly & Salmond are Co-Authors (with M. K. Saimbert), Comprehensive Systematic Review as the Basis for Evidence-Based Nursing Practice (Sept.. 2011, Springer) which received an AJN book of the year award for 2012.
Dr. Holly is the coordinator of the Eastern Nursing Research Society's Research Interest Group on Comprehensive Systematic Review and Knowledge Translation. She is a member of the Committee on Directors of the Joanna Briggs Institute of Nursing and Midwifery, the Evidence Translation Group, Cochrane Nursing Care Field, and the Cochrane Injuries Group. She serves as manuscript reviewer for several journals, including Nursing Outlook, Applied Nursing Research, Nursing Education Perspectives, and theJournal of Critical Care Nursing. She has led eight funded research projects. She has published extensively and is a national as well as international presenter.
Dr. Salmond is the North American co-convenor of the Nursing Care Field of the Cochrane Collaboration. She is the research editor of Orthopedic Nursing, and has served as a research, educational, and clinical management consultant. Dr. Salmond has co-authored three editions of Orthopaedic Nursing (WBS) and has authored two other books, and numerous book chapters and peer-reviewed journal articles. She is a highly-sought after conference presenter and workshop leader, both nationally and internationally.
Dr. Jadotte is a resident physician pursuing Preventive Medicine. He graduated summa cum laude from Montclair State University, and with honors from the New Jersey Medical School at Rutgers University. He is currently a PhD candidate in the joint degree program in Urban Systems between NJIT and Rutgers University. He is a member of numerous honor societies and professional organizations. A reviewer for several academic journals, he has published peer-reviewed articles in leading journals. He also leads 2 international teams of physician-scientists at the Cochrane Skin Group, and has extensive experience in systematic review, meta-analysis and comparative effectiveness research methodology.
Dr. Qureshi earned her doctorate in Urban Systems, a joint UMDNJ, NJIT and Rutgers-Newark degree program. She has published peer reviewed articles in leading journals and has contributed to the Joanna Briggs systematic review methodology for reviews of association.
