American Nurses Association Honors Nursing’s Best
Dr. Lucille Joel Receives Honorary Recognition Award
Since the early 1900s, the American Nurses Association (ANA) has presented awards to prominent nurses in recognition of their outstanding contributions to the nursing profession and to the field of health care. During its 2008 Biennial House of Delegates meeting in Washington, DC, ANA bestowed Honorary Awards in 13 categories on June 26.
“These nurses truly epitomize the best of the nursing profession. Their commitment to advancing the profession, through education, through research, and through advocacy for their colleagues and their patients serves as an inspiration to nurses everywhere,” said ANA President Rebecca M. Patton, MSN, RN, CNOR. Interim College of Nursing Dean and Professor Lucille Joel was one of 13 nurses honored.
Dr. Joel, received the Honorary Recognition Award for distinguished national or international service to the nursing profession. The list of contributions Joel has made to the nursing profession is extensive. Her accomplishments are of national and international significance to nursing. A nursing leader from 1979 – 1983, Joel has served as president of the New Jersey State Nurses Association, and the president of the American Nurses Association from 1988-1992. Joel remains actively engaged at all levels of the profession contributing her time and talents to the nurses and the profession in her home state of New Jersey.
