As Assistant Professor and Clinical Educator at Rutgers School of Nursing (RSON) my role is to develop, implement, and evaluate simulated clinical learning experiences for undergraduate and graduate nursing students. I have extensive experience in simulation design and in developing curricular innovations to enhance practice readiness in pre-licensure students. My work emphasizes collaborations with didactic faculty to integrate simulation across the undergraduate curriculum and ensure congruence of the RSON simulation program with course and program outcomes. In my role as Clinical Educator for the New Jersey Collaborating Center for Nursing (NJCCN), New Jersey’s nursing workforce center, I assist with administering a grant-funded healthcare apprenticeship program for newly licensed nurses and developed a nurse educator residency program for practicing nurses seeking transition to academe. I participate with the New Jersey Action Coalition (NJAC) to address priorities for nursing education set forth by the National Academies of Medicine Future of Nursing 2020-2030 to achieve health equity for vulnerable populations. As part of my work with NJAC, I was a contributing author for a student recruitment and retention toolkit that provided recommendations for improving diversity, equity, and inclusion for students attending New Jersey schools/colleges of nursing. My activities at RSON, NJCCN, and NJAC serve to promote the development and sustainability of a nursing workforce that is well-equipped to meet the needs of New Jersey’s citizens and who are well-positioned to positively impact the health and well-being of the larger national and global communities.
