Big Sister/Brother - Little Sister/Brother Program

“Each One, Reach One and Teach One”

The College of Nursing Educational Opportunity Fund (CN-EOF) program implements a peer mentorship program; “Big Sister/Brother - Little Sister/Brother Program” at the inception of the 7-week pre-college summer readiness program. The program is designed to help pre-freshpersons make a smooth transition to college life. The main goal is to help increase retention and graduation of ethnic minority students through academic success and peer support. The “Big Sister/Brother- Little Sister/Brother” Program begins with a student and staff facilitated meeting on the first day of the pre-college summer readiness program where the group discusses the importance of mentorship and the guidelines that will be followed. Once the expectations have been established, each party signs a peer mentorship contract. Since its inception, the program has expanded to include transfer students. Many of the relationships created through participation in the “Big Sister/Brother- Little Sister/Brother” Program have flourished into life long friendships.
