Course Registration Information
Student Advisement
Upon admission, students are assigned to a faculty advisor. Every attempt is made to identify an advisor with similar interests to the student. Each semester, before registering for classes, students should arrange to meet with their faculty advisor for a progress review on their plan of study. To view the current list of student advisors please login to Blackboard.
Doctoral students please see Doctoral Student Advisement for additional information.
Where do Courses Meet?
Many of the graduate nursing courses are online, some meet a few times during the semester and some meet every week. For courses that meet a few times during the semester, the location will be announced by the faculty. The locations for courses that meet on a weekly basis and a listing of each semester's course offerings are available in the University Schedule of Classes.

Taking a Semester Off
Taking a semester off is possible. If you do not plan to register for courses during a regular semester (spring or fall), you must register for "Matriculation Continued" by contacting the graduate program coordinator in the Office of Student Services to obtain a special permission number. Registering for Matriculation Continued allows you to retain active student status for a nominal student fee. There is no tuition for this type of registration however failure to maintain matriculation will result in forfeiture of your status as a College of Nursing graduate student and may require review of your academic record for re-admittance to the graduate program.
If you are currently receiving financial aid and need to take a semester off, be sure to contact the Rutgers Newark Financial Aid Office at 973-353-5151 to determine if your financial support will be jeopardized.
