Preparing for your Professional Future: A Four-Year Journey
Congratulations! You have started the exciting journey to become a nurse. However, the four years you’ll spend on this journey will pass very quickly. With planning regarding where you are headed, you can make the most of your time and position yourself effectively to join the profession in a way that is most meaningful to you.
Spend these next four years building not only the skills, knowledge and judgement you will need to be a nurse, but also the professionalism needed to be a successful leader in the field. Participate in opportunities that will enable you to enter the profession with confidence and presence.
Professionalism encompasses skill development, judgement, work ethic and personal presence. Your academic program will provide you with the tools you need to successfully perform the tasks of nursing and to enhance your professional judgement, but there are things you can do to ensure that you are able to demonstrate a positive work ethic and personal presence. Intentionally engaging in this four-year plan is an excellent way to start your journey.
