Post-Masters Certificate Programs

The Post-Masters Certificate Program at Rutgers College of Nursing is designed specifically for registered nurses who have a master's degree but did not follow a course of study that led to national certification as a nurse practitioner. Nurse Practitioners who would like to achieve certification in another specialty area are also appropriate for this program. The Post-Masters Certificate is offered in the following specializations:

  • Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner
  • Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (Accelerated)
  • Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner
  • Family Nurse Practitioner
  • Pediatric Nurse Practitioner
  • Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner

The Primary Care and Pediatrics Post-Master's certificates consist of 8 courses (18 credits of theory & practicum and 4 credits of psycho-social foundations). The Family Nurse Practitioner Post-Master's certificate option consists of 10 courses (24 credits of theory & practicum and 4 credits of psycho-social foundations). The Psychiatric Mental Health Post-Masters Certificate consists of 8 courses (20 credits of theory & practicum and 3 credits of psycho-therapy).

In order to be admissible to the program, students must have a Master of Science Degree in Nursing and have taken the following courses during their master's degree:

    •    Advanced Pathophysiology
    •    Pharmacodynamics
    •    Advanced Health Assessment

Non-Degree Study

Baccalaureate and Masters degree holders may register for non-degree study.  Non-degree students are permitted to take a maximum of 6 credits (two courses) with a 1-semester limit (on a space available basis) before applying for matriculation.

Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing:

If you have a bacccalaureate degree in nursing and are interested in taking a master's level non-degree nursing course, only the following courses can be taken if space permits:
